Listen "S1 E16: Darrin Schenck"
Episode Synopsis
This week on the Lead to Win Podcast, we sit down with Darrin Schenck. In this powerful and inspiring episode, Darren discusses the life-changing car accident that led him to reevaluate his path and find a new purpose. He also shares his journey from professional racquetball player, to coach and public speaker. Darren emphasizes the importance of resilience and falling in love with the process, rather than focusing solely on results. He also provides insights on guiding others to embrace the process and strike a balance between trusting the established strategies and encouraging innovation.
Darrin comes from the racquetball world, having played professionally for 6 years and at one point climbing to #18 in the world. After retiring at age 30, he took a few years away from the game and then returned as the Head Coach of the Arizona State University Racquetball team. In his 15 years of service at ASU, they were able to win a Women’s National Championship, produce three dozen Collegiate All-Americans, and Darrin was a 2-time Coach of the Year selection.
Takeaways:
Resilience is the ability to get knocked down and get back up, even when faced with adversity.
Falling in love with the process means finding joy and fulfillment in the journey, rather than solely focusing on the end result.
Leaders can guide others to fall in love with the process by emphasizing personal growth, maximizing potential, and managing expectations.
Maintaining love for the process requires starting fresh each day, staying open to new ideas, and avoiding complacency.
