Alec was born into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but grew up surrounded by people who were openly "anti-Mormon." Despite having profound spiritual experiences in his youth, he found himself in a state of constant confusion, questioning his faith as he got older. A combination of factors—including bullying—led to depression and suicidal thoughts, eventually pushing Alec to the point where he told the Holy Spirit to leave. In search of something to fill the void, he turned to atheism, nihilism, and other philosophies.
