Throughout the entire book of Daniel, the story is based on a group of men who are taken from their native land and moved into a foreign country. Daniel and his friends were taken to a land that was not their own, to serve a king who was not their own, and to learn the ways of a culture that was not their own. While we may not be physically taken out of our native lands, we, as Jesus followers, are not where we are forever meant to be. We’ve entered a world and a culture, much like the Babylon that Daniel and his friends entered into and like them, we have a choice on how we are going to live.
