Episode Synopsis

As we celebrate 50 years since Ireland voted to join the European Communities, we were delighted to be joined by Erwan Fouéré for our latest episode of Just the Chats. Erwan spoke candidly about his experiences of the 1972 EEC Referendum in Ireland, as well as what it was like to be one of Ireland's first staigiaires.
During the conversation, Erwan told us all about his 38 year career with the European institutions, his joint responsibilities of EU Special Representative and Head of Delegation in the EU External Service when he was appointed in this double capacity in North Macedonia ( 2005-2011 ), his role as the first Head of Delegation in South Africa ( 1994-1998 ) where he was awarded the Order of Good Hope, Grand Officer, by President Nelson Mandela in 1998, and his role as the first Head of Delegation in Mexico and Cuba ( 1989-1992 ). Then finally, Erwan also spoke to us about his experience of working in Ukraine.
Hosting this episode was European Movement Ireland's Digital Communications Manager, Ryan Levis, alongside Deputy CEO, Stephen O'Shea.
