Listen "Death, Dying, and Assisted Suicide (S1, E34)"
Episode Synopsis
The Jewish faith's rituals around death and dying have existed for centuries if not millennia. They are compassionate and wise. Today, as we reach the first quarter point of 21st Century, we have new challenges, even in the domain of death and dying. If you are suffering from a terminal illness in many states and, indeed, in many countries around the world, you may opt for assisted suicide. That's legal in more and more places around the world. If done correctly, it is a compassionate option to what might otherwise be a long, painful, and drawn-out (and legal) exit to this world. But what does Judaism have to say about this? It turns out the answer is not quite as black and white as you might think. What about things like hospice? Tune in for a discussion of this most personal and sensitive of issues.
