Listen "Teaching in Taiwan"
Episode Synopsis
In this episode I interview Laura Broatch, a New Zealand national, currently living in Taiwan where she teaches English. Laura describes her work in a Cram School - which students attend after their regular school, often in the evenings or at weekends, learning English intensively - a process known as 'cramming' - hence the title, Cram School.
Laura qualified as an English as a Foreign Language Teacher in New Zealand before heading off to Taiwan. Here she has explored the island extensively, tasting the food and everything that the country's rich culture has to offer. Laura initially qualified with a Masters in Social Science from the University of Waikato, where she majored in Anthropology.
It is this interest in people and anthropological study which makes it appealing for Laura to travel the world from her home in New Zealand. The ability to speak and teach in English is a real asset for her on her travels, especially as a woman travelling alone. Laura has already travelled to 25 countries with more to come!
