Listen "One Last Day"
Episode Synopsis
Written by Jamie Kimathi Milburn
One Last Day is a story about an owner putting his dog to sleep, and the last day they spend together before the end.
Lyrics:
You see it in his eyes, you know he knows
It doesn’t come as a surprise
One last day for doggy before he needs to close his eyes
I hope he knows I’m not killing him
Just putting him to sleep
A long and painless sleep
One last day for doggy
Before I’m allowed to weep
I wake up with him, sleeping next to me
He has lost a lot of weight
I want him to stay, handsome everyday
But he’s not looking so great
He is gasping for air, he can hardly move at all
He is sick on the floor, then he looks away with guilt
I tell him it’s okay, then he gives me a look
Almost as if to say
“Is this how I’m gonna die? Do you know? Do you know?”
What would be my reply?
One last day for doggy before he gets his wings to fly
I hope he knows it’s the best way
Because he is very sick
It’ll be over quite quick
One last day for doggy
One last day for doggy
We go to the place, where we used to go
Whenever I felt blue
He seems to realise this, and tries to lick a kiss
But his body doesn’t want him to
He is gasping for air, he can hardly move at all
He is sick on the floor, then he looks away with guilt
I tell him it’s okay, then he gives me a look
Almost as if to say
You see it in his eyes, you know he knows
It doesn’t come as a surprise
One last day for doggy before he needs to close his eyes
I hope he knows I’m not killing him
Just putting him to sleep
A long and painless sleep
One last day for doggy
Before I’m allowed to weep
So this is the end I guess
I’ve taken him to his final place of rest
I hold his paw and stroke his ear
And for a moment he has nothing to fear
He’s lying there, the last time
He will ever lie awake
So the euthanasia happens fast
Now there’s nothing left to do
He doesn’t move, except his eyes to look at me
And in a moment or two he’s free
I hold him close, put my nose to his
it’s gonna be okay
It’s gonna be okay
It’s gonna be okay x3
