Even though God has given up on the Jewish nation right now, that does not mean He has totally done so, as God is able to graft them back in again.  Here in Micah 5 we see God has given up on them until this Assyrian invasion.  Or, the coming Russian invasion of Israel will be very Assyrian-like.  The five major texts about the future Assyrian are Isaiah 30 & 31, Isaiah 14, Jeremiah 50 and today's text of Micah 5.  This episode will help a person see these facts more clearly.
