Pretoria-Special Investigative Unit Head Advocate Andy Mothibi says he suspects there is a criminal syndicate that is operating at the country's five refugee centres. This after Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi and the SIU were tipped off by a whistleblower about shenanigans happening where illegal immigrants would be fraudulently issued with different documentation. The SIU and the Hawks have embarked on a search and seizure at the Refugee Centres in Marabastad, Cape Town, Durban, Musina and Qheberha. Mothibi says the data that will be processed from electronic gadgets and documents confiscated from the Refugee Centres will be instrumental in prosecutor and officials that are found to be implicated in the maladministration and corruption linked to the issuing of asylum seeker, permanent residence, work visa, and other documents issued by the Home Affairs Department.
