Listen "Gary Howlett, Learning Advisor"
Episode Synopsis
Sam talks with Gary, a 73-year-old learning advisor/retired school psychologist who describes his journey as a "story about war, but it's not a war story." Gary's experience as a soldier in the Vietnam War fueled his interest in the developmental process throughout life; ultimately leading him to challenge the status quo in education. The experience introduced him to the field of positive psychology which would serve him both professionally and personally. Sparked by his daughter's middle school project on Vietnam, Gary began traveling back to the country to mentor and advise educators and professionals, while also helping launch an international school. For over 15 years, Gary has continued his participant/observer journey of excellence by immersing himself into the foreign land to increase his knowledge in psychology, sociology, education, and personal development.
