This morning, our sermon series will concentrate on what it means to Respond to God’s Word. In the Gospel of John, Jesus uses the image of a vine to describe his relationship to both God and his audience. Those who abide in him, Jesus teaches, bear much fruit. Jesus continues “my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit.” As we unpack the text, we will reflect on what it means to abide in Jesus, and how abiding enables our faithful response to God. We will also contemplate what to do about those “branches” in our lives which no longer produce good fruit.
