Ibrahim Abdelfatah Al Chaachai, also spelled Ibrahim Abdelfatah Al Shaashai or Ibrahim Abdelfatah Al‑Cha‘ashai, was a celebrated Egyptian Quran reciter best known for his mastery of multiple recitation methods. Born on July 10, 1930, in Cairo’s Darb al-Ahmar district, he grew up in a devout Qur’an-memorizing family and learned the Qur’an under his father and Sheikh Amir Othman. He later studied Tajwīd at Al-Azhar, further refined his maqāmāt under Sheikh Darwish al-Hariri, and joined Egyptian radio in 1968.

He became one of the most prominent voices on Cairo Radio and later served as imam at the Sayyida Zaynab Mosque. He also recited in Mecca, Medina, and Egypt’s Arafat station. Skilled in the Hafs ʿan ʿĀṣim riwāyah and knowledgeable in Warsh ʿan Nāfiʿ, his vocal style combined technical precision, multiple riwāyāt, and emotive presence, earning widespread admiration and invitations to recite internationally.

He passed away in 1992, leaving behind a treasury of recorded full-surah recitations—such as Āl ʿImrān, Maryam, Al-Fath, Ar-Raḥmān, Al-Wāqiʿah, and Ad-Dhuḥā—that continue to be studied and appreciated for their clarity, melodic richness, and Tajwīd excellence.
