On this episode of ‘At HydePark with Indeewari Amuwatte’, Chairman of the Colombo Stock Exchange Dilshan Wirasekara, Member of the State Owned Enterprises Restructuring Unit Mangala Yapa and Former CEO of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Manjula De Silva discuss Sri Lanka’s ongoing SOE divestment process and the way forward.

CSE Chairman Dilshan Wirasekara, explaining the creation of a separate listing board and new listing rules at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) for state-owned enterprises (SOEs), said the CSE expects to enable SOEs to progressively transition from what they are now to what they should be.

Former CEO of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Manjula De Silva said the restructuring process was undertaken by several governments in the past and the process has been undertaken to utilise assets under the state to bring in more revenue to the government.

Also speaking to Indeewari Amuwatte, Member of the State Owned Enterprises Restructuring Unit Mangala Yapa said, the SOEs under the review must be evaluated individually and bring in customized solutions for each entity and divestment should be done evaluating all the aspects including the payment structures of the state workers currently being employed.
