Listen "Director of Tamra Yeeji Architecture Office, Kwon Jung-woo"
Episode Synopsis
Having established his architectural office in Jeju City, Kwon Jung-woo, originally from Seogwipo City, initially had little knowledge about Jeju City’s original downtown area. However, the place where he coincidentally began his architectural journey, Jeju City’s original downtown, has become a treasure to him. The downtown, where the past and present coexist, is filled with stories that need to be preserved. As an architect, he doesn’t just focus on constructing buildings, he also conducts research on how to unearth the stories embedded in places and spaces, continuing to pass them on. A testament to his efforts is the ‘Kim Young-soo Library’, which he renovated without having to demolish it. This place won the ‘2020 South Korea Public Architecture Award’. He contemplates ways to collect Jeju’s history and convey it through architecture, and he believes that the buildings he has created and those he will create in the future show that. Ultimately, he hopes that Jeju’s architecture becomes known worldwide.
