Episode Synopsis

Thanks for listening to the May edition of the Houston Grass Podcast. These are the main points made by Michael during the show. It's the end of May and the end of the time to apply Nitro-Phos Superturf to give your lawn the slow release nitrogen it needs all summer long. We've had lots of rain, but as we move into the hot summer months if the rain stops and if you're not watering enough the chinch bugs will move in. They are always looking for drought-stressed grass. However, lots of moisture and shade will give rise to gray leaf spot. If you're installing Palisades Zoysia in shadier areas and watering as you should to give the grass a good start, you should also apply Heritage G herbicide to your grass to prevent gray leaf spot.During Houston's hot summer, you should adjust mowing height to retain moisture and using a sharp blade for clean cuts.Address yellowing grass with Ironite to restore color and promote healthy growth. We've had a busy spring and some varieties were in short supply. Our farm is telling us that we'll be getting Palisades Zoysia again in mid-June. We have limited supplies of Palmetto St. Augustine and our two varieties of Bermuda grass. Call us for availability. If you have any questions about these topics, please call our office at 281-431-7441.  Thanks for listening!
