Paul very clearly describes for us the condition of fallen man before salvation. According to this passage we are dead , unable to respond or take one step towards God . In other words, we do not cooperate with God to accomplish salvation. God alone, gives life to our spirit so that we can respond to the gospel in faith, which is not a natural but a supernatural faith in the lord Jesus Christ. And then we are born again.
