“UNDERSTANDING EASTER”A sermon outline based on Luke 24:1-49Hillcrest CRC, March 31, 2024, 9:30amRev. Curt Walters Jesus’ followers were frightened and confused. (Luke 24:4-5, 9:21-22,44-45, 17:24-26, 18:31-34, Matthew 17:22-23) They were depressed and slow to believe. (Luke 24:25-27,30-31) Jesus’ disciples were filled with doubt, even after Jesus appeared to them. (Luke 24:36-43) They only believed when Jesus opened their minds. (Luke 24:45) We only understand Easter when we know that we’re dead and need a resurrection! (Ephesians 2:1-7, John 20:29, 1 Peter 1:6-9) Next steps...Ask God to open your mind and help you understand and believe what you read in the Bible. Start reading the Bible every day, beginning with the Gospel of John.Admit that you are dead in sin and invite God to make you alive in Christ.Ask people what Easter means to them.  Then take the opportunity to explain what Jesus’ death and resurrection means to you and share the good news of the gospel with them!
