LITTLE EGRET. Its name in the Irish Language is ‘Éigrit bheag. The Latin name is ‘EGRETTA GARZETTA’. It is a GREEN LISTED bird in Ireland. A bird to be seen to occupy the liminal space between land and water and was considered to have the mystical ability to traverse between the 'Otherworld' and our own. A messanger bird. They eat frogs, small fish, rats, mice, small birds, snails and worms etc. The Little egret holds a fascinating history in the millinery world as it's feathers were used in the production of late 19 Century hats.Garrett continues to imagine to observe these birds on the Rogerstown Estuary at THE HIDE SCULPTURE.
