Agatha Vinš speaks at 15. 12. 2024 Good morning!I hope you are enjoying the pre-Christmas time, reflecting on what Christmas means beyond just decorating and shopping. Each Sunday, we explore themes of Christmas, and today we focus on hope. Hope is an optimistic mindset based on the expectation of positive outcomes. It involves believing in the possibility of good things, even in difficult situations. According to Holman's Dictionary of the Bible, hope is a confident expectation of a favorable outcome according to God's will. Just as we anticipate gifts under the Christmas tree, we trust God to intervene in our lives. The opposite of hope is hopelessness, despair, and depression—states where we feel trapped with no way out. This was the feeling among the Jewish people at the time of Jesus' birth. They lived under Roman rule, with 400 years passing since the last prophecy. An angel announced the birth of Jesus, the promised Savior, bringing hope in their darkest hour. It’s easy to lose sight of Jesus amidst the busyness of the Christmas season. We often prioritize unimportant things over our spiritual lives, neglecting prayer and reading God’s Word. Like retracing steps to find lost items, we can return to the place where we lost Jesus. The good news is that, even when we forget Him, He never forgets us. Jesus came to bring good news to the spiritually hurting and to heal the broken-hearted. He came to set free those bound by sin and open our eyes to our spiritual needs. He offers us abundant life and seeks to lift us from our struggles. Christmas is a promise of hope, reminding us of all that Jesus came to fulfill. Are you finding hope in the good news of Jesus?
