Autism Spectrum Disorder Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. Although autism can be diagnosed at any age, it is described as a “developmental disorder” because symptoms generally appear in the first two years of life. Reference: NIHDr. Gelena Workneh is born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  She completed her medical school and residency in US.  After completing her pediatric residency at University of Chicago, she travelled to Botswana and Ethiopia to practice international medicine for more than 3 years.  She is currently practicing in Mary’s center, which provides primary health care and other wrap-around services to any individual that enters their doors regardless of their ability to pay. She has a wealth of experience in childhood developmental disorder.
