Listen "Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 4 Ep 7: Special guest Lisa Paglia"
Episode Synopsis
If you've ever lived with or cared for someone with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia, you know the tragic consequences that lie in wait. Understanding what it is truly like for a person to live with brain disease and having the specialized knowledge to navigate the many unpredictable situations that surface on a day to day basis is the first step to coping and managing it for loved-ones and caregivers. It is very possible for people who suffer from brain disease to live meaningful, fulfilled lives with the help of those who are prepared for it. As a society, there is another worldwide crisis that is looming in the near future that will catch us all off guard if we don't plan for it now. The number of people who will develop Alzheimer's disease is projected to double, not only in the United States, but worldwide, in the next few decades if a cure is not found, according to the Alzheimer's Association and the World Health Organization. Currently, the cost of caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease/dementia is not only prohibitively expensive, but very difficult. Many families cannot afford professional care or cannot help care for their loved ones, and these challenges are only bound to get worse, just based on the sheer number of people who will develop it. We need to be proactive vs. reactive in finding solutions to the challenges we face with this disease, as well as be proactive in lowering our risk of developing Alzheimer's disease by implementing lifestyle changes now.
