This song was a long time in the writing. In 2008 I split up with my partner of three years. We were living together and as we dismantled the home we’d built I was struck by the image of two lives having become one for a while and right there in the division of books and CDs, becoming two again. Like everything that moves me, I knew there was a song in it. I had to wait until 2018 when my Mum’s 15 year relationship came to an end to find the right way to express it: she called me and told me she felt like she was “untangling” her life from her ex-partner’s life. At that moment, I knew I could finally write the song.
