Episode Synopsis

Active listening; I'm Samir Saif, and in today's episode, we're going to talk about active listening skills.
Now, you might think that listening is just something we do naturally, but it's not always as simple as it seems. Active listening requires intention, focus, and practice.
So, what is active listening? Active listening is the process of fully concentrating on, understanding, and responding to what someone is saying. It's about putting aside distractions and truly engaging with the person you're listening to.
Crucial components of active listening
One of the most crucial components of active listening is nonverbal communication. Your body language plays a significant role in demonstrating that you are engaged and interested in what the speaker is saying. This means maintaining eye contact, nodding, and providing verbal affirmations like "I see" or "I understand."
Reflective listening
Another critical component is reflecting back what you've heard. This is known as reflective listening, where you summarize what the speaker said in your own words to ensure you fully understand what they're saying. Reflective listening shows that you're actively engaged in the conversation and that you're interested in what they have to say.
Active listening
Active listening also requires being present in the moment. It's important to put aside distractions like your phone or other thoughts to focus on the conversation at hand.
