Listen "Better Not Bitter"
Episode Synopsis
Grief acts as a distiller of reality, often leading us to see through some of the shoddy beliefs that we have been taught about who we are and how things work. In this episode, Lisa talks about Yusef Salaam, one of the Five who were falsely convicted and imprisoned in the case of a central park jogger who was assaulted and raped. She mentions his book, Bitter not Better: Living on Purpose in the Pursuit of Racial Justice as a springboard to talk about grief, disconnection, the difficulty of changing one's perspective, and how grief leads to insight and compassion.
