Listen "F1 Monaco Grand Prix: Flying Cars & Helicopter Cameras | Spanish GP Preview | Grid Walk June 1, 2023"
Episode Synopsis
This week is a rapid turnaround from the Monaco Grand Prix to the Spanish Grand Prix in the F1 world and there is a ton to discuss. Therefore, naturally, Nicole and Briana start with the most crucial event of the last week: The New Barbie Movie trailer that rocked our worlds. What does this have to do with Formula 1? Not much, but we wanted to share our joy with all of you.The F1 discussions start with our pure joy that the massive Mercedes’ (basically B-Spec) upgrades (that were brought to Monaco of all places) seemed to go well. Lewis Hamilton ended the race P4, but more importantly, he and the rest of the leadership at the Mercedes F1 team seemed positive leaving the weekend. Can we use last weekend’s performance as an indicator of what is to come for the Mercedes car?Nicole and Briana also spend time celebrating Estie Bestie’s (Esteban Ocon) fantastic drive to a podium place for Alpine. Nicole also breaks down Grid Walk’s first podium of the Monaco GP Race Weekend: Estie Bestie’s Best Moments of the Weekend. Who knew all the F1 Monaco GP needed was a helicopter? We did! Grid Walk circles back to our discussion from last week’s episode of Formula 1 finally taking over the TV production of the Monaco GP from the local station. WOW - It was even better than we both expected! The wide shots provided a great view of the action and allowed the broadcast team to really tell a story. Briana also reveals an embarrassing secret. There was more flying this Formula 1 race weekend than just a helicopter. Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton’s newly upgraded Mercedes were both lifted into the air to reveal their floors to the rest of the grid in Free Practice after crashes. But the bigger news was Sergio Perez’s Red Bull F1 car floating in the sky for all other nine teams of the F1 grid to finally see what is responsible for Red Bull Racing’s extreme pace advantage. Briana breaks down what this means for the other nine Formula 1 teams.Ferrari is now a verb and I don’t think it has a good definition. Did the Aston Martin F1 team Ferrari this race? Did Aston Martin Ferrari more than Ferrari? Did Ferrari Ferrari this race? Did Alonso leave the Ferrari F1 team after many years of Ferrari-ing just to get Ferrari-ed by Aston Martin? We can’t have the F1 Monaco Grand Prix without a post-race weekend Gossip Grid. Nicole goes through many of the moments of the weekend where Formula 1 intersected with pop culture. This included a lot of celebrities attending with Red Bull Racing and making it very clear you are rooting for Lewis Hamilton.Lastly, Grid Walk turned its attention to the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona this weekend. Briana outlines the details of three key things to know going into the weekend: new Pirelli tyres to test, a new track layout this year, and the slew of upgrades all the teams will be bringing to this race. Nicole looks to catch up to Briana as they make their weekly predictions heading into a race weekend.Grid Walk is a weekly Formula 1 show that releases every Thursday.
