Matthew is describing the last few hours before the crucifixion. After leaving the upper room, Jesus and the disciples go to the Garden of Gethsemane. The name of the garden literally means "oil press" which is fitting, given that Jesus would show just how much stress He was under at this point. Jesus asks His disciples – His closest friends – to share this time with Him. Even now, Jesus has important lessons to teach the future leaders of His Church. And while they join Him, they do little to comfort Him – if fact, they mostly disappoint. He knew that would happen and still He showed kindness, love, and compassion – just like He does for His followers today.
