They discuss what it takes to run a beef cattle operation full time, how Sixteen Peaks came to be, and the phenotype, fertility, function and marbling that brought them to the Akaushi breed. Andrew details how they developed and executed a plan to build their Akaushi herd and eventually develop their own branded beef program. Andrew walks us through how they defined their cost of production to price their product at a point where they could have a sustainable profit margin. Seth and Andrew talk about the motivation that cattle providing their livelihoods provides for how they go about things in their operations. Andrew delves into rotational grazing, and the added tonnage it can produce, as well as how they feed their cattle to prepare them for harvest. Andrew and Seth close the episode talking about the goal they each have of building their respective operations into profitable enterprises to pass along to the next generation.
