Today's devotion is from Genesis 2:18, Then the LORD God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him."Man is "not good" to be alone and must be settled before everything is declared very good by God (1:31).In His creation, all the livestock, birds, and beasts of the field have their own fit except for Adam. So, God provided a suitable partner "fit" for the man.Eve is a "Helper," an ideal partner, one who supplies strength in the area that is lacking in Adam. She is not above or below Adam but fit for him or matches him. In other words, a wife is not her husband's clone but complements him. God's design for marriage works this way.In general terms, a suitable companionship is complementary to each other. A wife and husband could be a suitable companion with each other. Two single who are friends can be complementary to each other or a group of friends. Here is the thing: A suitable companion has your best interest at heart. They are someone alongside whom you can be sure of help, encouragement, and comfort.Value Your spouse, or to the single, your complementary friends, and you to them. A suitable companion will tell you the truth no matter what rather than being polite. They will not multiply kisses but are not afraid to hurt your feelings with the truth because they love you.You are blessed when you have a suitable companion from God. Value them by upholding them in prayer and being faithful and kind to them.May you value your spouse or complementary friends, for they are sure blessings from God. Amen.
