1 Kings 3:9 (NKJV) - “Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”In 1 Kings 3, we find Solomon at a defining moment in his life. He has just become king, facing the immense responsibility of leading the people of Israel. When God appears to Solomon in a dream, offering to grant him anything he desires, Solomon asks for wisdom. He does not seek wealth, a long life, or victory over his enemies, but instead, an understanding heart to judge the people fairly.This prayer shows Solomon's humility and awareness of his limitations. Despite being a young king, he recognises his need for God’s guidance. Solomon's request for wisdom pleases God, who not only grants him incomparable wisdom but also adds wealth and honour as a bonus.In our lives today, we are often faced with decisions that challenge our wisdom and understanding. We might be tempted to seek quick solutions or ask for things that benefit us alone. But Solomon’s example encourages us to seek wisdom from God, not just for our gain, but to serve others well.James 1:5 reminds us that if we lack wisdom, we should ask God, who gives generously without finding fault. God is ready to provide wisdom to those who seek it with a humble heart. Are you facing a difficult decision or circumstance? Ask God for wisdom, trusting that He will guide you.Let us remember to pray for an understanding heart that listens to God and discerns between right and wrong. When we seek God’s wisdom first, we align ourselves with His will, and He promises to take care of our needs.Today, take a moment to ask God for wisdom in the areas of your life where you feel uncertain.
