Nehemiah spent 12 years in Jerusalem leading Judah to spiritual renewal before he returned to the Persian palace to resume his service for the king. By the time he returned to Jerusalem, the people had drifted far from the place they had been under his earlier leadership. He immediately went to work correcting that drift and led them back to spiritual fervency. The danger of complacency that leads to spiritual drift is real and confronts us all.
