Christian historian Jeraslov Pelikan said, "Tradition is the living faith of the dead; traditionalism is the dead faith of the living. Tradition lives in conversation with the past, while remembering we are where and when we are and that it is we who have to decide. Traditionalism supposes that nothing should ever be done for the first time, so all that is needed to solve any problems is to arrive at the supposedly unanimous testimony of this homogenized tradition." In week one of this year's Advent series, Cast of Characters, Pastor Kevin will tell the story of Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, and we will learn how like Zacharias, we must be willing to go beyond our own expectations and human traditions, to realize the purpose of God.
