Listen "013 Edgar Allan Poe"
Episode Synopsis
In Ghostly’s thirteenth episode, Pat and Rebecca celebrate six months of Ghostly as well as National Poetry Month by exploring the haunting history of Edgar Allan Poe and the ghostly sightings that have continued after his death. Poe’s life was full of tragedy and death is even more mysterious than his dark stories.
Questions explored in this episode: What tragedies happened to Poe throughout his life? What is the mystery surrounding his death? What are the main theories about this death? What happened to his grave? Does he haunt his grave? Is his spirit haunting the house he shared with his 13-year-old cousin – who also became his wife? What influenced Poe the writer?
Poe’s Haunted Baltimore Home
In this episode Pat gives the history of Poe’s life and Rebecca discusses Poe the writer and then tells the story of Poe’s ghost. Afterwards, both hosts debate and explore these ghost sightings and devolve into a debate about windows. They also reveal the story of the “Poe Toaster”!
Edgar Allan Poe’s Grave
Also included is a fantastic and haunting reading by Phillip Charles Denofrio of Edgar Allan Poe’s “A Dream.” Phillip is a wonderful poet himself and you can read his own ghost story series here: https://www.nwherald.com/sponsored/articles/2015/10/09/33479219/index.xml
Listen to both sides and decide what you believe. Be sure to listen for the “Closing Arguments” to help you make your choice.
