Throughout the book of John, Jesus compares something physical to something spiritual by saying “I AM the bread of life” in John 6. Jesus lets the crowd know He can provide so much more than the thing they crave and seek after, namely, physical things, physical bread. Jesus wanted them to know that He is the satisfier and sustainer of life, and that they must turn toward Him for everything and in every situation. Unfortunately, we aren’t too different than these crowds...? We regularly turn toward everything else but Jesus, when ultimately Jesus is all we need, because He is our true food.
