In this week’s Gateway to Africa President Jacob Zuma unveils the statue of Oliver Reginald Tambo and describes O. R Tambo International Airport as a facility of world standards. O. R Tambo is the longest serving president of the governing African National Congress. He contributed immensely to South Africa’s freedom struggle. Also in the show Tourism Minister Tokozile Xasa makes an impassioned plea to tourism monitors to be loyal to and be ambassadors of the country. She was launching the Tourism Monitors Programme in Soweto which aims to enhance tourism and ensure safety for tourists. Two hundred monitors have been recruited and after undergoing training they will be deployed 5 regions of Gauteng province. The first of its kind, it is hoped the Tourism Monitors programme will be rolled out to other provinces if it proves to be successful.
