Hello everyone, welcome to a new episode here on Funifelt. On the occasion of the month in which we celebrate International Literacy Day, in Funifelt we explain how the world is doing in terms of learning for children, teenagers and adults. The crisis caused by COVID-19 has created unprecedented difficulties in education processes. It has made more evident the inequalities and has disproportionately affected the 773 million illiterate children and adults in the world, as literacy programs have not been part of the initial intervention plans of many countries.
During this period of health crisis, efforts have been made to ensure continuity of educational efforts, particularly through distance and blended learning. However, access to this new model of education has not been equal because of the persistent digital differences, in terms of connectivity, access to electricity and ability to use technology, which limits learning opportunities.
Literacy is an integral part of education and lifelong learning, as described by the UN in its Sustainable Development Goals, and in this sense, it is essential for post-crisis recovery.
In this way, the commemoration of International Literacy Day represents an opportunity to rethink the future of education and literacy, in the context of the pandemic. Also, the factors that are conducive to making literacy based on inclusive and useful technology in education and learning today.
