Listen "What say the prophets for Sukkot?!? Haftarot-Sukkot Day 1 & 2"
Episode Synopsis
So in Hebrew, the word "haftarah" is NOT related grammatically to "Torah" and is certainly not "half of the Torah" as could be easily assumed. Sounds the same BUT IT'S NOT friends! Here's the definition: Haftarah: (lit. "concluding portion"); reading from the Prophets at the conclusion of the weekly Torah reading. So it's quite an underutilized and often unacknowledged part of the Shabbat services and Holiday services. We take a look at the connections between the two portions and why they're read on the first two days of Sukkot. Also, we take the super-cool SUKKOT QUIZ! Test your knowledge of Sukkot with some basic to intermediate level questions! CHAG SAMEACH! Also, during the intermediate days of this festival, the greeting in Hebrew is "Mo'adim L'Simcha!" [festival joy!] and the proper response is "Chagim u'zmanim l'sason!" [festivals and times of joy for you, in return!] Hebrew is such a beautiful language!
