Listen "Lech L'chah-Walk to Yourself! Haftarah insights"

Episode Synopsis

The third reading from the book of Genesis is named Lech Lecha. It means "go forth."  The additional portion [haftarah in Hebrew] from the Prophet Isaiah is 40:27-41:16.
This name is given to both the Torah portion and the Haftarah because the first verse of the parasha in Genesis 12 says,
"Now the LORD said to Abram, 'Go forth (lech lecha, לֶךְ־לְךָ) from your country.'" Parashat Lech Lecha introduces Abraham and tells the story of his pilgrimage in pursuit of God.
Isaiah offers the people of Israel a message of reassurance. By the sixth century B.C.E., Israel had been in exile for decades, but Isaiah tells the people that God has not abandoned them, and is still concerned about their welfare.  But WHY is this portion from Isaiah 40-41 read during a week about Abraham and his family and his maiden voyage from his motherland???  See the connections and insights including Rashi's commentary about the verses in Isaiah and connections with Hebrew insights and other sections of the Bible!
What Is the Haftarah, and Why Do We Read It?  Each Torah portion is paired with a passage from the Prophets.  To find out more, check out https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/haftarah/
