Listen "Episode 147 with John Quinlan, It's been A Wonderful Life"
Episode Synopsis
Today on the podcast, I’m joined by John Quinlan, whose life and work reflect the spirit of service, resilience, and community. John grew up in New York, first dreaming of becoming a teacher, and that calling led him to the Peace Corps, where he taught in Nigeria, before returning home to continue teaching in Brentwood. His journey would eventually take him into activism, helping to shape the gay rights movement and working with the Gay Men’s Health Crisis during some of the most challenging years of the AIDS epidemic.Later, John made his way to Greenport, where his passion for community, conservation, and beauty took root. He played a role in bringing the AIDS Memorial Quilt to Washington, D.C., ensuring stories of love and loss were remembered, and as chair of the Greenport Tree Committee, he’s been instrumental in initiatives that have shaped the village’s landscape from tree plantings to the beloved Cherry Blossom Festival.
