Episode Synopsis

Pete teaches the second year 'Comedy and British Cinema' module here at Salford University, which has a fine tradition of engaging in the academic study and practice of comedy (https://www.salford.ac.uk/salford-school-arts-media-and-creative-technology). Pete's students have supplied him with questions to ask of comedy specialist Dr. Tomsett. In a very wide-ranging conversation they discuss: which voices get to "do" and talk about comedy; the differences between British and U.S. comedy - and between TV and filmed comedy; why we should study it; the importance of live comedy to the industry as a whole; Richard Curtis, Meera Syal, Monty Python, their favourite periods and sitcoms and more!
Thanks to Ellie for the conversation and for some technical assistance too! Ellie is involved with Mixed Bill: Twitter - @MixedBill and https://mixedbill.wordpress.com/about/
