Listen "Episode 7 - How to Improve a Middle Schooler's Reading Level"
Episode Synopsis
Send us a textTD Flenaugh, the host of Falling for Learning, is a parent and National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence English. TD gets into the details of how to get middle schoolers to love reading. It first starts with determining reading level. Children's reading levels may not be on grade level due to the pandemic and other factors. TD suggests that children should be reading at an independent level on a regular basis to increase their reading development. The independent reading level is their ability to understand what they are reading and have adequate background knowledge to understand it. The instructional reading level for children is when 10% of the words are unclear or unfamiliar, and 60% of what they're reading is clear to them.
