Listen "Sister Elizabeth Mary Burns' Dead-end Job"
Episode Synopsis
Faith In Action's Joanne Fox visits with long-time friend and former collaborator, Sister Elizabeth Mary Burns. Sister grew up in St. Patrick's Church in Estherville. Sister is renowned by many for her ministry as a nun, nurse, and administrator of Marian Health Center, now MercyOne Siouxland. Now 95 years old, Sister reflects on her life, as well as her role as an obituary writer, a "dead-end" job. Sister Mary Elizabeth Burns' story caught Joanne's attention in her remarkable store in May 7, 2022 edition of the National Catholic Reporter in an article entitled "Recording people's lives with an eye toward their souls."
