Listen "Celebrating Safely"
Episode Synopsis
High school and college are times full of new experiences and discoveries and there are ways to have fun yet stay safe. Hosts Youngjoo Ahn and Clare Durant interview award winning author, director, and producer, Yasmin Shiraz, to find out ways that young people can avoid danger while enjoying themselves. Yasmin writes and produces content that deals with serious issues in an entertaining way because ultimately, it may save a few lives. In her new book Accused, Yasmin focuses on the prevalence of date rape and sexual assaults on campus offering numerous ways to be alert and protect yourself as well as the important steps to immediately take if you suspect you've been drugged or assaulted. In her new segment, The Big Picture, Clare explains the new bill passed in California's legislature that gives colleges legal grounds to address and handle reports of sexual assaults through an "affirmed consent" clause. Nicole Eubanks opens our eyes in Health Beat with alternative ways to drinking, driving, drugging, and participating in other risky behavior. The take away is that it is possible to celebrate safely. Be aware!
