Listen "2 Peter 2:1c"
Episode Synopsis
We discover that, coming off the heels of an exhilarating declaration of the power and authority of the revealed word of God at the end of chapter one, that there will always be what I call "The Unwelcome Companion of Orthodoxy" -which is to say, false teachers. Wherever truth is proclaimed, there will be someone who will come in to distort that truth. So, as we have begun the study of the first three verses of chapter 2 we see that We all must be on our guard against the dangers of false teaching! In order to do this, we will observe the characteristics of false teaching as they appear in this text.
In the first part of verse 1 we saw that 1) FALSE TEACHING IS PERVASIVE. Then, in the middle part of verse we saw that 2) FALSE TEACHING IS INSIDIOUS. Under this point we see that a) False teaching is Surreptitious, and begin to study the fact that b) False teaching is destructive. We finish out this discussion by noting that it is i. destructive to the faith, and ii. destructive of doctrine.
