Listen "2 Peter 2:1a-b"
Episode Synopsis
We discover that, coming off the heels of an exhilarating declaration of the power and authority of the revealed word of God at the end of chapter one, that there will always be what I call "The Unwelcome Companion of Orthodoxy" -which is to say, false teachers. Wherever truth is proclaimed, there will be someone who will come in to distort that truth. So, as we begin to study the first three verses of chapter 2 we see that We all must be on our guard against the dangers of false teaching! In order to do this, we will observe the characteristics of false teaching as they appear in this text.
In the first part of verse 1 we see that 1) FALSE TEACHING IS PERVASIVE. Then, in the middle part of verse we see 2) FALSE TEACHING IS INSIDIOUS. Under this point we see that a) False teaching is Surreptitious, and begin to study the fact that b) False teaching is destructive. We aren't able to finish that discussion in this episode, so it will resume in the next.
