Emmy Huefner spent her high school years doing everything others expected of her. She took lots of honors and AP classes, played sports and music, sought leadership positions in school clubs, and did volunteer work. She was driven by the goal of getting into a “good college.” By time she graduated, Emmy was burned out and had lost her love for learning. A gap year of global service allowed her to, for the first time in her life, deeply reflect on who she is and what she wants her life to be about.
