Third Street Writers members Claire Purcell and Norma Sadler, winners of the two top prizes in the 2025 John Gardiner Poetry Contest, are joined by Laguna Beach poet extraordinaire Ellen Girardeau Kempler. In this episode, the trio discuss the history of the John Gardiner Contest, his legacy, and their experiences taking part in and winning prizes in this year's competition.The theme of the 27th Annual John Gardiner Poetry contest, sponsored by the Laguna Beach Public Library, was "Worlds of Wonder". Claire's poem, "New Mexico Blue Corn" took first prize; Norma's work, "Too Many Tomatoes" was awarded second prize. Both poets read their prize winning poems at a special public event on June 7 and again on today's show!
