World class standard is to test for 80 diseases in the newborn heel prick test. In Australia we currently test for 28, as we haven't updated our testing since the 1990s. Labor confirmed their election promise of $38.4 million on April 6th 2022, to “end the testing lottery” of our very outdated Newborn Screening policy.
