chapter 14 of 1 Corinthians is devoted to a comparison of prophecy and tomgues but why bother since chapter 13 declares thar both will pass away? We find that far from being redundant, this chapter shows the Corinthians how the principles set out in chapter 13 on love must be applied in practice. These spiritual gifts were a necessary temporary provision enabling the church to grow while there was no written New Testament to guide them, And when they do pass away, they give way to preaching Christ until He returns.
