Athens was the centre of ancient culture but at the same time its highly sophisticated inhabitants were idolaters. Our situation today is strangely similar. Our "idols" are different (money, sex, rave-music, selfish ambition etc.) but they are equally effective in turning men's hearts from worshipping the only true God. We can learn from the way Paul set about proclaiming Christ to the Athenians.
