Listen "Section 31"
Episode Synopsis
This chapter describes the journey of Thomas Marsh, who left home at fourteen and eventually found his way to the early Latter-day Saint movement. Dissatisfied with Methodism, Thomas felt led by the Holy Ghost to seek a new church. In 1829, he learned about the Book of Mormon and met Martin Harris, who introduced him to Joseph Smith. Excited by the new faith, Thomas and his wife Elizabeth moved to New York, where Thomas received a revelation through Joseph Smith at the Church's second quarterly conference in September 1830. This revelation marked a pivotal moment for Thomas, transitioning him from a seeker to a proclaimer of the gospel. He served as a physician to the Saints and a missionary, leading the New York Saints to Ohio despite challenging conditions, demonstrating his commitment to his newfound faith.
